Do you like to make copycat recipes (aka "clones" of restaurant dishes)? Why? I'm writing a story about home cooks who enjoy duplicating recipes from restaurants -- like Applebees, Red Lobster, Swiss Chalet, etc. I'm curious to hear from people who like to do this, especially in Canada. Do you do it to save money? To make restaurant recipes more healthy? Or is it the thrill of sleuthing out and recreating a "secret" recipe? Or some combination/something else? can you open a restaurant and use recipes from a published cook book and charge for the food? would that be considered plagiarism or copyright infringement if you just used the recipes from the cook book instead of figuring them out on your own? i mean, I wouldn't take credit for them or anything, claiming they're my recipes. but would I have to give credit to the cook who wrote the cookbook, or could I just serve them in my restaurant and charge for them?

Adding recipes to a small restaurant? We are a small restaurant in Romania, that provide food for the occasional weddings and graduation parties. For now we have the following menu of dishes: - hommis (veg.): cooked cickpeas blended with seasame puree, spices and lemon juice - tuna steak - lamb chops - fresh cat stew - Chicken kabab As for drinks, we serve wine and beer. We wish to expand and diversify our offer, so please offer your advice of what else we can prepare for people's delight - you can just say what's more popular in your region and I will make up a list. Thank you. I was just asking on advice of how to improve our service. If you don't like our current menus, or if the restaurats in your county don't consume cats - that's fine. Just take it easy on me. Chicken kabab and tuna steak are being the most popular so far - but people like cat stew too. We just deliver the food - so people already have them on the table when they arrive and they can choose whatever they like. I got the cat recepy from a Chinese chief and adjusted some ingredients to fit our limited buged. That is not our main course, so just about 20 pounds a week are being prepared. We had no serious complaints so far, but we've kinda run out of ideas.

I make really good homemade BBQ pork and the yellow mustard is no problem, but how I long for the red sauce! ...this isn't a sweet and sour sauce and it's not thin and transparent. It looks like ketchup. It tastes like ketchup magically enhanced and the recipe seems to be the same everywhere. It's the consistency of ketchup. I know different restaurants serve different sauces, but this one seems to always come with the BBQ pork slices.
